Los Angeles launches logo for 2024 Olympic bid

The Los Angeles Olympic Committee has announced its logo and slogan for its bid as it attempts to bring the Olympics back to the United States for the first time in 28 years.

With more than 100 Olympians and Paralympians in attendance at their launch event, the LA 2024 team unveiled a multi-colored angel with outstretched wings and the sun shining from the heart with the slogan “Follow the Sun.”

Los Angeles based creative team 72andSunny, with brand guidelines from Bruce Mau Design, have depicted the idea of “City of Angels” with the angel as the centre while adding focus to the state of California with the sun shining from the angel’s heart.

Following Paris launching their bid logo earlier this month, United States Olympic Committee chief marketing officer Lisa Baird said the logo was a great start for Los Angeles’ bid to host the Olympics and believes the optimism shown with the logo will help trigger future growth.

“I believe this is just the beginning of the immense creative potential we’re going to see from the LA Olympic 2024 bid. I love the feeling of optimism and progress that is captured by the logo’s design. LA 2024 can be a new beginning for California, our nation, and the Olympic Movement worldwide,” she said.

LA 2024 committee chairman Casey Wasserman said that people think of Los Angeles as a destination for dreams and they wanted to channel that energy into their bid for the Olympics.

“Every day people follow the sun to our city in pursuit of their dreams. We’re inviting the world to follow the sun to California in 2024″.
