Yahoo Sports will now live stream MLB games

Yahoo will live stream Major League Baseball (MLB) games each day completely free of charge on its sports news website Yahoo Sports under new deal signed with the league.

In an attempt to boost its traffic as well as increase its profile as a sports website, Yahoo Sports will live stream a total of 180 games during the 2016 season. In April, the site will live stream at least one game of each of MLB’s 30 teams under the agreement.

The financial details or the length of the deal haven’t yet been released (though the deal will at least last the 2016 season), but with Twitter’s recent acquisition of the NFL’s Thursday Night Football streaming rights, it’s definitely likely that it will last longer than just the one season.

The MLB and its teams have made several digital advancements already in 2016, enlisting the use of Facebook’s live streaming service as well as Snapchat’s Official Live Story. And with many organisations putting emphasis on digital engagement, it may not be the end of MLB’s deals as we go deeper into the season.
