Sevilla launch new club shop on Amazon

Spanis giants Sevilla have become the latest top-flight football football team to launch a new club shop on Amazon, offering their fans the chance to buy shirts and other licensed products on the platform.

Previously, the club sold items through various outlets and channels, and by bringing all their merchandise and products into a single location, it will make it much easier and safer to get authentic club items. Sevilla’s own internal online research and data that showed many users were searching the team on the Amazon already, and so the La Liga club determined that this move would bring in a new significant revenue stream as well as adding an ease of access for fans.

Amazon now has rights to 20 live Premier League games from next season onwards, so it will be interesting to see if any of the clubs (or indeed the league itself) start to do something similar starting from the 2019 / 20 season. Beyond broadcasting the games to the Prime Video audience, Amazon also has the ability to distribute merchandise and even tickets to fans around the world, so the tie-in would seem possible.

By utilizing their single platform, Amazon is positioning itself to be a cornerstone in the football streaming and merchandising markets for years to come and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it take advantage of their e-commerce expertise as well as their OTT platform when partnering with sports teams and leagues in the future.
