Rugby World Cup set to bring in £1 billion

As the excitement builds for rugby’s showcase event kicking off in London next month, GoEuro has released a study focused on accommodation, miscellaneous and transport costs. This has suggested that the Rugby World Cup will generate almost £1 billion for UK’s tourism industry.

GoEuro has estimated that 2.2 million locals and over 440,000 international visitors will travel across the UK and converge on the 11 host cities in one of the biggest sporting events on the planet. Based on the figures provided in GoEuro’s study, it will be the largest sporting event, tourism value wise, since the 2012 London Olympics.

London is expected to be the biggest winner overall with 17 matches earning the city almost £200 million. The figure will also receive an added boost from the amount of visitors that will converge on the capital. Despite London already having a busy transport network, it will likely be assisted by the tube becoming 24 hours on the weekends starting in September.
