In partnership with ESL, the world’s largest eSports organisation, and Microsoft, the fully-electric motorsport championship FIA Formula E will launch a global eSports motorsport tournament on Forza Motorsport 6 named “Race Off Pro Series”.

Five online rounds will be organised in the next few weeks as a preview to the real Formula E races in Long Beach, Paris, Berlin, Moscow and London.

In order to roll out the best gaming events possible, Forumula E has teamed up with leaders in this area including Microsoft’s Turn 10 Studios, the Forza Motorsport 6 creator, and ELS, which hosts eSports tournaments all over the globe.

Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag said that considering the constantly expanding market and the millions of fans it attracts online, the decision to enter into eSports was really a no-brainer.

“eSports is a golden opportunity for the future of motor racing. After lauching previous digital events, Formula E is committed to embracing the world of eSports, and the creation of this championship takes this to the next level,” he said.

Ahead of the four next Formula E races, a Rivals event will open for one week in the Forza Motorsport 6 Xbox Live lobby. Gamers will have to set their fastest lap around the Long Beach, Paris, Berlin and Moscow circuits. Then, the fastest 10 players across the world will be invited to compete in a live Pro Series final, live-streamed by ESL, in the morning of each Formula E race day.

To conclude, the top-two from each Pro Series final will be invited to London as part of the last Formula E round of the season, where they will race to win the Grand Final and share of the €15,000 (£11,700) prize fund.
