First Ever Football ‘Twansfer’!

We’ve heard before about players being signed after been shown on YouTube or videos being sent in to clubs but has there ever been a transfer that took place courtesy of Twitter before?!

It is not as daft as it may sound.  The player in question, Kieran Agard, was signed from Everton by Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton and it wasnt because the player himself was on twitter or put himself forward but because the manager decided to do a bit of crowdsourcing on the platform.

What better way to engage with fans than to ask them who the club should sign.  We as supporters spend the entire summer (if not most fo the year) talking about who clubs should sign and why.  How great would you feel knowing your tip off about a player being available meant that the club signed him?

“The help from the supporters has been magnificent,” Terry Skiverton said.

“What I didn’t realise was other supporters from other clubs had jumped on the bandwagon. I’ve had supporters from Liverpool, Man Utd, Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Championship clubs like Cardiff, all telling me about their best youngsters and players are available on loan.

“The supporters sometimes feel left behind but in this case they’ve been asked for their opinion.

“I’m trying to do it a different way by giving them a bit of interest and it’s been excellent.”

Top marks to the manager and to the club for endorsing it.  Smaller clubs have a limited scouting network so will miss out on many players who are available as they just dont know about them.  Fans tend to know everything about everyone at their club so are one of the best sources around so why not use them.

Is this something that could catch on at other clubs and in other sports??
