Wembley 360 Panoramic-Photo Returns

To commemorate the dual celebration of Wembley’s 90th birthday and the FA’s 150th anniversary; Wembley 360 returned for a second year at FA Cup final.

Wembley 360 is a panoramic photo of the stadium which is shot from opposite the players’ tunnel at pitch-side using a high-end camera that allows rapid firing of hundreds of images within a few minute.. This is known as a ‘gigapixel photo’ which is an image of at least one billion pixels in resolution and is made by stitching together hundreds or thousands of individual high resolution photos. Wembley 360 managed to collate the images together, and then upload it within a few hours of the end of the final.

The resultant photo is of such a high resolution that users can zoom-in to a facial recognition distance and tag themselves. The 2011 Wembley 360 FA Cup final image was awarded as ‘world’s most tagged photo’ and ‘world’s largest sports photo’ and they hope to repeat the success this time round. Aviva did a similar thing for the Ireland vs England game in the Six Nations and was equally as popular.

Those lucky enough to have been at the game on Saturday can tag themselves in the photo, but even if you weren’t there, it is definitely worth checking out.
