Snap Inc. partner with European clubs to launch football filters

Fans of major European football teams have been given virtual club-themed face paint on Snapchat.

13 bespoke, geo-specific lenses featuring top clubs in England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain will be launched at midnight on Friday, along with a mini game in which fans can head a football in real-time.

With the launch of Spectacles, partnerships with rights holders (OlympicsParalympics, Premier League) and publishers (Bleacher Report, Copa90), Snapchat is rapidly becoming a dominant force in the world of digital sport.

“There are over 50m daily Snapchatters in Europe and many are football fans,” said Ben Schwerin, VP of Partnerships at Snap.

“Neymar at Barca, David Alaba at Bayern, Hector bellerin at Arsenal, Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea, Mario Goetze at BVB, and Raheem Sterling at Man City are just a few of the players using our service to share behind-the-scenes moments with the world. These new lenses give fans a dynamic, fun way to get in on the action and show support for their team.”

The lenses will be available in each team’s country of origin until midnight on Sunday 22 January and then at each team’s stadium and training ground for the rest of the season.
