PSG earns the most money per social media follower

French football giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) earn the most money out of a single social media follower despite just making it into the top 10 on total social media numbers.

According to information provided by Forbes, the Parisians top the table, achieving £14.37 from each follower (27.9 million followers), over three times the revenue gained from a single FC Barcelona or Real Madrid social media followers. This is despite having just a quarter of the social media following of each of the Spanish giants.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have 109.1 million and 106.8 social media followers respectively (Facebook and Twitter) but they rank at 9 and 10 on the table when it comes to the revenue achieved per follower with Real Madrid achieving £4.50 per social media follower and £4.28 for Barcelona.

Accompanying PSG at the top is Juventus in second and Bayern Munich in third with the Bianconeri getting £10.8 per follower and the Germans getting £10.18 respectively.

With these kind of statistics comes mitigating factors such as differing merchandise prices and regional fan bases, however Barcelona and Real Madrid’s numbers might cause even more doubts behind the scenes over the ROI on club social media activity. Particularly when you consider the new relationships and the new activity that the Spanish clubs are doing like Snapchat and VR.
