French Football Federation launches “Proud to be Blue” campaign

To celebrate being 100 days out from the 2016 Euros, the French Football Federation has launched its “Proud to be Blue” campaign in support of the French national team.

Proud to be Blue is more than just an advertising campaign as the federation has also released a social portal centred on the French team for the 2016 Euros and integrates with fans’ social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The platform enables French fans to access information, articles and videos and share that kind of information across various social media platforms – making the portal a one stop shop for fans wishing to express their support for the French team on social media – a rather simple but effective idea in boosting fan engagement between the French national team and its supporters before the tournament kicks off on June 10.

In addition to the social portal, the French Football Federation has also launched a new official mobile app focused on the French team. In what was created to work as a platform for when fans couldn’t get near a television as well as a companion platform alongside watching the games, it offers fans the opportunity to follow games live, access videos, images and statistics.

With France being the host nation of the 2016 European Championships, the campaign has been coordinated with France-based La Fourmi and has been designed to signal the host nation’s unification and its leadership.

Accompanying the campaign is an adidas-esque video designed to evoke emotion and patriotism from French football fans from all walks of life. Featuring snippets of France’s football games to pre-game jitters from a member of the national anthem marching band, the video is modeled on that of the one the French Rugby Federation released during the Rugby World Cup and is called “Proud to be Blue – the Movie”.
