In January of 2020, Comcast NBCUniversal announced the launch of SportsTech, a global accelerator for sports technology start-ups.

This unique international partnership combines Comcast NBCUniversal, one of the world’s largest sports content distributors, with eight iconic sports brands and venture capital expertise from NBC Sports, Comcast Ventures, Sky Sports, and Golf Channel – alongside NASCAR and three U.S. Olympic sports organisations: U.S. Ski & Snowboard, USA Cycling, and USA Swimming.

SportsTech was scheduled to run this autumn, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organisers were forced to consider the health and safety of employees, partners, and founders allowing this to guide their decision to postpone the accelerator program to February 22nd – May 14th, 2021.

Comcast NBCUniversal plans to move to early 2021 with the goal of delivering an in-person experience where founders can innovate, create and build sustainable companies in the Atlanta Innovation Centre, a place designed with a hardware lab and open collaboration space.

Giving start-up founders access to world-class advisors and mentors from SportTech’s partners is paramount to the program’s success. This guidance will help them challenge their assumptions and build products and solutions aligned to the partners’ innovation priorities and challenges.

Jenna Kurath, Head of SportsTech said, “We have been impressed by the calibre of the founders who have applied already.

As we continue receiving the final applications in the coming months, we are looking forward to welcoming the very best companies for our 2021 accelerator class.

Early-stage start-ups from around the world are encouraged to apply, at www.comcastsportstech.com. The closing date for all applications is August 15, 2020.
