Zlatan the megalomaniac and Pay-as-you-go live streams in today’s Daily Digest

Today, as ever it seems, there’s a very international flavour to the news. With us covering articles from the US to India. If you’re keen on esports then either get involved by heading to Pinsent Masons in London by booking on here. Or follow the event updates on Twitter using #DSLondon.

NBA is experimenting with 99-cent fourth quarter live streams (engadget.com)

This has been mooted for a while. Can broadcasters – in this case the NBA itself – drive more revenue and viewer numbers by selling the final period of a game separately. Basketball probably more than any other sport is more frenetic and interesting towards the end and people might only be interested in that part. So why not give them the opportunity to do so? But will it cannibalize the full game coverage or will it be one that others will take up?

Facebook, Google in race for BCCI digital rights (timesofindia.indiatimes.com)

After Facebook’s failed attempt at landing the IPL last year, could the BCCI be one they’ll try even harder to secure? Or will it be as we saw in the Premier League rights and be a lot of hot air with little substance? India makes sense as it’s a country of huge potential and little penetration so far for the tech giants. But they could be derailed by recent events and have greater things to spend their time on than sports rights (at least under Peter Hutton gets his feet under the table).

Eurosport restructures as Hutton heads to Facebook (sportbusiness.com)

Talking about Peter Hutton. Eurosport are preparing for life after their successful CEO. It was first reported in January that Peter would be leaving for Facebook but has only just been officially confirmed.

The Content Game: How AFL clubs approached Round 1 (digitalsportslabs.com.au)

A great wrap up from Australia from people who are doing this day-in day-out. We can get very trapped into our UK/US bubble and it’s great to see how other people and creating sports content within digital to give us more insights and inspiration.

Texas Is Building A Huge Stadium For A Billion-Dollar Sport: Video Games (fastcodedesign.com)

If anyone thought esports might be a fad then take note. The spread of specific venues for video games is spreading, after reporting last week about Red Bull opening a public space in London last week. This venue will hold 1,000 people and be state-of-the-art. We are just seeing the start in the massively exciting industry.

If you’re interested in esports, we have our ‘esports special’ event tomorrow evening in London. Still a few tickets left so head to http://bit.ly/2HM6f5E for more details.

‘Dear LA, you’re welcome’: Zlatan takes out full page LA Times ad after signing with Galaxy (thedrum.com)

And who better to finish any article off than with the legend that is Zlatan. Never one to be shy when it comes to self promotion, he does so with pomp and with the ability not to take himself too seriously (just). Good luck Zlatan on the final part of one hell of a journey!
