This Deadline Day may be big, but social will not reach summer levels of hype

It’s transfer deadline day, which probably means something different these days to what it did a decade ago.

These days, perhaps people see through the hype a little, especially in January, when the biggest transfers don’t tend to happen: though this year has been something of a different story. With big deals like Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United and other big names being floated around for big-money deals on deadline day itself, it could be a bigger window than we might have expected.

But on the day itself, it’s always frantic. Not only are deals always a potential, but those working on clubs’ social media accounts are under more pressure than ever to create a signing video in a matter of hours.

We’ve seen the trend die down somewhat since last summer’s craze, but there have been a few out-there attempts so far this window.

None moreso than real Betis’s attempt upon signing defender Marc Bartra from Borussia Dortmund:

But others have been more low-key this time. A classy attempt from Manchester City was understated in its welcome of new signing Aymeric Laporte.

This window has already seen Manchester United welcome their new signing, whilst Scottish side Motherwell dabbled in parody to make their own for new signing Peter ‘Pete’ Hartley.

That was a glimpse back to last summer, but this time, the craze hasn’t reached the levels it did last time. But spare a thought for those who have to come up with something interesting for the deals which may happen today with very little warning!
