Liverpool’s official TV channel to broadcast Brazil World Cup warm-up games

As football clubs all over prepare for the start of the Russian World Cup in a few weeks, Liverpool have announced that LFC TV will broadcast Brazil’s warm-up games against Croatia at Anfield on Sunday and against Austria week after that at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna.

Both games will be broadcast on Liverpool’s TV and digital channels and will serve as a treat for Reds fans still hurting from their Champions League final defeat last month.

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino will be playing at his home club ground in the colours of his country when the Selecao come to town. The Brazilian attacker is coming off a Premier League season in which he scored 15 goals for Jurgen Klopp’s team, and he will play a valuable role in Brazil’s quest for the golden trophy in Russia over the coming weeks.

The first game could feature another Liverpool player, too, in Dejan Lovren, who serves as centre back for the Reds and the Croatia national team.

Liverpool fans will also get to see an old friend in Philippe Coutinho return home to Anfield on Sunday. The Brazilian midfielder spent six fruitful seasons playing for the Reds, amassing 41 goals in 152 appearances in the Premier League over that time. Coutinho has since joined Barcelona of La Liga.

The move to broadcast the internationals live on LFC TV may seem, on the face of it, a strange one. Club media channels are usually thought of as a place to give fans a chance to keep up to date with what’s happening around the club, not so much a place to see live sport. But recently, Liverpool aren’t the only ones playing host to international friendlies on their club account: back in March, Manchester United’s MUTV showed the friendly between Russia and France, featuring Red Devils duo Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.
