La Liga chooses its official smartwatch
In one of the more irregular sponsorship deals of the year, Samsung have beaten Apple to the punch with its Gear S2 smartwatch named the official smartwatch of La Liga for the remainder of the 2015/2016 season.
The Korean tech manufacturer became an official sponsor of the two Spanish professional soccer divisions in August. But this new smartwatch deal signals the start of a expanded partnership between the two with advertising and brand presence between the two also increased.
As the league’s official smartwatch, La Liga’s mobile application will be added to the Gear S2 model and will enable users to follow live updates of the country’s three main competitions, the La Liga, the Liga Adelante and the Copa del Rey. It will also include live updates of the Champions and Europa Leagues.
The expanded partnership will also see Samsung receive advertising opportunities during matches and promotion through the leagues digital and social platforms. In addition, the tech brand will gain a presence during live TV broadcasts on the La Liga TV online streaming service and at corporate events.
“The official smartwatch of La Liga” is yet another unusual sponsorship opportunity by La Liga with the competition opening up sponsorship of player’s socks at the end of November.
