IOC partners with Intel, swapping fries for chips
Only days after parting company with partner McDonald’s the International Olympic Committee has, quite literally, swapped fries for chips, teaming up with Intel in a partnership due to run until 2024.
The new partnership, though, is an exciting one for viewers of the coming events, though, as Intel have announced that they will work with the Olympics and their broadcast partners in order to bring their technology into the audience’s homes, offering VR, 360 and 3D content, according to a press release, as well as pushing their 5G platforms. Using drones and artificial intelligence platforms is also on the agenda.
Intel suggests that 5G will transform communications over the coming years, and promises to showcase this at future Olympic Games along with 360 replay technology. The technology company will also work with broadcasters to offer spectators an immersive VR broadcast from next year’s 2018 Winter games in Pyeongchang.
It’s not just viewers who could benefit from the deal, though as Intel have also pledged to integrate some technology into “many facets of the Olympic Games,” too.
