How we have a content problem, digital Panini World Cup stickers and ‘All Or Nothing’ for Man City

The sun is out and the cold has gone…for now at least here in London. And to celebrate here is another excellent sample of the awesome sports tech content that is out there. If you see any you think should be in tomorrow’s post then drop me a link to @danielmclaren.

We Have A Content Volume Problem (socialnsport.com)

The excellent Jessica Smith is one to follow for her great insights. This time she focuses on the dilution of our own products, often pushing out content for the sake of doing it and there being too much samely ‘stuff’ out there. When what is needed is clarity and vision as to what is working and why, and at the same time what is not. Quality over quantity works every time.

Panini Digital Sticker Album launched for Russia 2018 (fifa.com)

If you love your football sticker albums but like doing everything online. Then this is where you need to be. The last World Cup saw an amazing 195 million virtual packets opened and 243 million stickers swapped! This is something that crosses all ages and territories, I remember my first one for the 1986 World Cup!

Amazon Prime Announces ‘All Or Nothing’ Global Sports Docuseries (deadline.com)

After their successful NFL series of this name, Amazon are going to roll out other sports under the ‘All Or Nothing’ title. This is where their deal with Man City will fall into, and should be a cracking watch. Also can’t wait to see the All Blacks one!

NBA players know they’re addicted to their phones. Good luck getting them to unplug (washingtonpost.com)

Interesting to see how different teams approach allowing (or not in most cases) their players to get their phones out. Is it even possible to get a generation who have been born with a posture that stares down at their phone to ditch it for periods in the day? A digital detox is good for the eyes/brain but the temptation can sometimes be too much.

NBA Eyes Global Expansion For NBA 2K After Inaugural Season (sporttechie.com)

Even before the inaugural NBA2k competition has kicked off their talking about how big it could grow and international competitions to spread the games appeal. Out of all the leagues going into esports this seems like the biggest move with a full draft and league season. Others are restricted to cup style short events as they test out how they will do it without the large investment. This is the one to look out for!
