Hope Solo Joins Goal For Launch of US Women’s Football Podcast

Goal has launched a new podcast focused on the US Women’s National Team (USWNT) and featuring former USWNT goalkeeper and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Hope Solo.

The launch of the podcast – All of US: The U.S. Women’s Soccer Show – comes ahead of the women’s football competition at the Tokyo Olympics which kicks off on July 21 in Hokkaido.

The series begins with Friday’s preview show, with new episodes released after each USWNT match.

The initial run of eight episodes will focus on the USWNT at the Tokyo Olympics and be hosted by Goal’s USWNT correspondent, Seth Vertelney, and women’s football correspondent, Amee Ruszkai. Hope Solo will join as a special guest for four episodes in the series.

Post-Olympics, the series will continue with a focus on both international matches played by the USWNT and club football featuring their biggest stars across the world, as well as the US.

To complement the podcast, during the Olympics, Amazon Alexa users can get audio bulletins from the US camp, by podcast host Seth Vertelney with daily flash briefings that can be set up in the Alexa app.

The podcast forms part of Goal’s global and long running coverage of women’s football. As well as covering the women’s side of the game through Goal’s 44 local editions, Goal included female players in both its Goal 50 awards (for best players in the world) and NXGN awards (for best young players) from 2018 and 2020 respectively.

Last year’s women’s Goal 50 winner was Chelsea’s Pernille Harder, while Hanna Bennison of FC Rosengard won the 202 NXGN award.

Alex Chick, VP of content for Goal’s parent company Footballco said: “While we’ve seen a great appetite for our coverage of women’s football on Goal, by far the most popular players have been those from the USWNT.

“The launch of the All of US: The U.S. Women’s Soccer Show will go a significant way to ensuring our fans and fans of the USWNT are getting the best coverage of some of the best players and the best team in women’s international football.

While the focus will be what happens on the pitch, we’re keen to let the players talk about what is important to them too. With many female players passionate about civil rights, politics and other causes, such topics will form an important part of the show.

On Hope Solo, Chick said: “Both Seth Vertelney and Amee Ruszkai are excellent journalists who have built a strong reputation for their coverage of women’s football. By adding Hope Solo to the show we’re able to combine their experience with Solo’s extensive broadcast experience and amazing career at club, international and Olympic level. She’s also a fantastic personality who we’re thrilled to be adding to the team.”
