Great Digital Campign by Oakley – ‘You Vs’ Mark Cavendish

If you are a fan of first person films and like to see something more interactive then look no further than this latest creative for a big summer campaign by Oakley called ‘You Vs’.

It is a fantastic piece of digital integration that is not only fun, interesting and looks great but also does a top job of showing off the Oakley products.  So far there is only one sport you can take part in – racing against Tour de France sprint king Mark Cavendish.

One of its most fascinating aspects is its use of Facebook Connect.  For one you have to ‘like’ the page to be able to take part on the website, a good way of building up a fan base on the platform.  But when you take part in the challenge there are certain parts of the footage that include your Facebook profile picture.  Its great seeing your mug shot on billboards, on the bike and on the photo at the start of the footage (as well as some of your friends).

You also interact during the race with you being able to choose your colour kit and make moves during the race which will decide if you beat Mark or not (which I did…yeah!).  If you win you can then enter a competition to race him for real (think he might beat me if that happened).  It also allows you tweet your result and invite friends.

There are more interactive videos to come with Rory McIlroy, Cedric Gracia (pro mountain biker), Kevin Pietersen and Sebastien Loeb lined up.  I cant wait to see what all the different experiences are going to be like.

The creative comes from a company with a great pedigree in first person sports footage.  Bigball Films have been involved in the groundbreaking ‘I am Playr’ and the recent ‘Step Inside The Circuit’ campaign by Johnnie Walker as part of their McLaren F1 sponsorship.
