Game 7 of NBA Finals breaks record
U.S channels showing American football, baseball and basketball generate extremely high television audiences and are the origin of TV records.
Sunday night, Game 7 of the NBA Finals between Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State broke a new record after an improbable comeback. This is the first time an NBA team won the title after trailling 3-1 in the finals.
The decisive match broadcasted on ABC has recorded an audience of 30.8 million viewers on average and a peak of 44.5 million which is a new match record. It becomes the most-watched NBA game since 1998 when Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls beat the Utah Jazz.
According to Nielsen, 7 of the NBA Final games have attracted an average of 20.1 million viewers in the US. On the WatchESPN live stream, Game 7 has recorded 1,760,000 unique visitors. To compare, the NFL remains far ahead of the Super Bowl that gathered 111.9 million viewers on average for this year’s game between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers.
Lebron James gains his first title with the Cleveland Cavaliers after his return two summers ago. The win was greeted by an emotional ad by Nike congratulating the team. Let’s watch it again.
