FC Porto and Altice sign record deal

Portuguese football giant FC Porto has signed the largest TV broadcast rights deal in the history of Portuguese sports, breaking the previous record held by fellow Portuguese football club Benfica.

Its broadcast rights and advertising space went to Altice-affiliate Portugal Telecom (PT) in a deal starting in 2018 worth approximately €458 million (£338 million).

The deal includes the right for Altice to broadcast  FC Porto’s national championship games at home from season 2018/19 for ten seasons as well as the use of advertising space at Dragon Stadium.

The contract also includes the advertising on jerseys for 7 and half seasons, starting on 1st January 2016. It also includes the right to broadcast Porto Canal (FC Porto’s own channel) starting in January 1, 2016 until 2018.

In a deal that comes only one month after winning the French TV rights to the Premier League for €300 millions as well as signing Cristiano Ronaldo as a brand ambassador, Altice continues to expand its presence on sports broadcasting and marketing acrross Europe.
