Expedia and The Players’ Tribune team up to create “Travel Like a Champion” video series

Online travel company Expedia have teamed up with sports publishing platform The Players Tribune to create a video content series around the brand’s sponsorship of the Champions League.

Expedia became an official UEFA partner last August, linking up with the tournament that takes place across some of the most iconic destinations for city breaks across the continent. Now, the company are partnering with a publisher to better activate that deal – something which is becoming increasingly popular amongst brand sponsors.

The Players Tribune was launched in 2014, but over the last few years has become a familiar name to football fans in Europe, who have seen a large number of high-profile players share their stories with the American site. The publisher has become known for its ability to portray the lives and stories of athletes in immersive fashion, and now it’s set to do a similar job in a fittingly on-brand series evoking the sights and sounds of the European cities that will play host to Champions League football over the next two seasons.

The series will be called “Travel Like a Champions” and will start with Madrid, the host venue for the 2019 final.

Anthony Hogg, VP Commercial EMEA at The Players’ Tribune, said, “The Players’ Tribune is excited to be partnering with Expedia to bring football fans a unique insight into the iconic cities where some of the truly memorable European football moments have taken place.”.

“Intimate, athlete-driven storytelling through the authentic voice of the players is what we do at TPT, and the “Travel Like a Champion” series will encourage fans to explore and discover these cities on the recommendation of some of the biggest names in the game.”

Aaron Price, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Marketing at Brand Expedia said.“For football fans looking for travel inspiration, Travel Like a Champion will be the ultimate guide to showcasing some of the world’s more iconic destinations. Our goal is to give fans a firsthand look at experiences that they can participate in for themselves, all from the point of view of their favorite players.”

“The Players’ Tribune’s authentic athlete storytelling and credibility within football makes them the perfect partner to activate our official travel partnership of the UEFA Champions League.”
