DS London – Cricket World Cup Focus

April 23, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

The cricket World Cup is on the horizon and the new Hundred format of the sport is likely to be added soon, too.

That makes this an exciting time as well as a crucial period where the World Cup has to serve as a springboard to generate more interest and bring in new fans. Indeed, new fans and increased participation mean the sport can increase its commercial revenue and also attempt to grow its popularity in other parts of the world.

It’s all related and intertwined, but cricket has some challenges to face. For one thing, the sport can be something of a closed shop to any potential new fans. The language around the game, the often arcane rules and the emphasis on tradition can put people off really delving into the game. There are barriers to entry that those marketing cricket are seeking to open.

Our panel will ask what the sport can do to ensure its appeal is as broad as it can be, and where digital media can help that strategy.
