DS London – Where does cricket go from here?

June 12 @ 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm

The Cricket World Cup is on the horizon and the new Hundred format has been launched. This is also an Ashes year, and the calendar is looking packed with top class sport.

That makes this an exciting time, but also a crucial period where new audiences are being targeted and different versions of the sport are showcased.

The World Cup has to serve as a springboard to generate interest and bring in new types of fans. Indeed, new fans and increased participation mean the sport can increase its commercial revenue and also attempt to grow its popularity in other parts of the world. At the same time, those who already love the sport must be served properly and cricket simply mustn’t lose its heritage.

The sport can be something of a closed shop to any potential new fans: the language around the game, and the emphasis on tradition can put new people off following the game. And yet, these are the things that passionate cricket fans love about their sport.

We will ask what cricket can do to ensure its appeal is as broad as it can be while still retaining its charm. How are the barriers to entry broken down, and where can digital help with that strategy? Join us at Pinsent Masons for a chat about it over a drink or two on us!
