Eleven Sports Watch Together nominated for digital prize at SPORTEL Awards 2019

Eleven Sports’ submission has been shortlisted alongside two others in the Golden Podium awards at the Sportel ceremony

The Sportel Digital Prize rewards a service that enhances the way a viewer can consume a sporting event, which is different to how they have done so before. Watch Together enables groups of fans to watch and experience live sporting action together in an online ‘room’.

Eleven Sports has created an industry first experience where users can watch premium live sport with friends, family or fellow fans, in sync with each other in an online room. This enables subscribers to ‘Watch Together’ and share all the emotions that live sport evokes, even if they are hundreds of miles apart.

The feature was first used by subscribers in the UK and Ireland to watch LaLiga in December 2018. Since then Eleven Sports have launched Watch Together in Portugal and Belgium, where fans can watch UEFA Champions League, LaLiga, Formula 1, UFC and many other premium sports through the platform’s innovative feature.

The technology, powered by Reactoo, was launched to bring OTT viewers closer together. Not only does it give them a way to watch online with friends and family, it creates a platform for them to engage with fellow fans who they may not have done so previously. Viewers have been able to log into public fan forums such as ‘Barcelona Supporters Club’ to connect with like-minded football supporters.

The SPORTEL Awards are held every year as part of the SPORTELMonaco convention, the world leader in the field of sport business. This event is first and foremost an international competition that rewards the most outstanding sports footage and innovations of the year, during a Ceremony open and free to the public. This year’s edition is particularly special, as it marks the SPORTEL Awards’ 30th Anniversary.

This recognition of Eleven Sports’ ever-evolving output continues a period of success, after Eleven Sports Portugal picked up ‘Best Sports Broadcaster’ at the Meios & Publicidade awards in Lisbon on 4 October 2019, as well as similar awards in Poland, Belgium and Italy.

Tom Middleditch, Eleven Sports Global Head of Digital said: “It’s an honour for Eleven Sports to be shortlisted for a prize at such a coveted awards ceremony.

“Watch Together has been well received by our OTT audience in multiple territories and is an innovation we are extremely proud of. The feature has enabled us to learn a great deal about how fans want to watch content, helping us to shape the future development of our digital offering.”
