Amazon and Facebook to compete for live sports supremacy in 2018, new report predicts (geekwire.com)
It’s that time of year for tech trends a plenty come out (yes, even we’ll be doing one in the new year – worth keeping an eye out for!). This one is from Juniper Research and their Top 10 Tech Trends report and the highlight this article that Geekwire has highlighted is that of Amazon (and to a lesser extent Facebook) becoming a sports broadcasting powerhouse. They highlight the upcoming EPL auction as one to watch. Indeed it will be, but will Amazon really bid?

This is a really interesting article in the FT, not a source we see very often talking about this finer side of sports. But this long read taken an in-depth look into the business model that City Football as looking to grow through their international network of teams that stretch across the globe. Will it work? And will others try to follow?
MLS forms alliance with Dugout to reach fans globally (thedrum.com)
A year into the experiment known as The Dugout, MLS have joined other leagues and clubs in placing content onto the platform. It marks a move into the lucrative US market for the platform as they continue to push. Still not sure on how/if it is succeeding but good luck to them.
ESPN’s Millennial Ratings for Live Sports Jump as Much as 33% With Streaming and Out-of-Home Viewing (adweek.com)
ESPN have taken a hammering on all fronts recently, so it makes a change to read some good news for them! They recently changed their measurement to include streaming and out-of-home through Nielsen, and through it they’ve seen rises in several areas. Especially amongst the younger audience they have been accused of losing.
