Chelsea get creative with PAC-MAN Instagram Story for Spurs game
The football season has only just started and we’re already seeing clubs move on from creative/silly transfer announcements – though we still have more than a week left for more on that front – to the more regular activity of bringing match updates to life.
As we spotted last week, Hartlepool took us back in time with some Football Manager graphics that appeal to a certain demographic, namely guys about my age.

This weekend saw the Premier League champions, Chelsea, carry on their social media creativity with some computer game graphics of their own. But this time going back even further in time – back to the early days of computer gaming with PAC-MAN. Their Instagram Story of the game gave goal updates in the form of PAC-MAN being caught and the score appearing when he was. Then at the end you can swipe up for the match report as he reaches the end of the game.
It of course helps when your team win the game, making fans more appreciative of your efforts. Defeat means that many of your best efforts can be lost with those who support you, who rightly concentrate on what they have seen on the pitch. It’s also fairly important that there are some goals in the game – I don’t think a 0-0 draw would have seen this graphic come out and would have been stored away for the next one.
Chelsea have always been one of the most creative on all platforms, and this season I’m keen to see what the various clubs are going to come up with across Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and other platforms. The bar has been raised this season and with so many creative people working within football right now we can expect much more fun to come.
