Canterbury become new British and Irish Lions official apparel sponsor

Clothing line Canterbury has become the official apparel sponsor for the British and Irish Lions 2017 tour to New Zealand after reportedly beating out big moving brand Under Armour in the deal.

As part of the commitment, Canterbury will provide both training and match kit during the tour which kicks off in June of 2017.

The brand will replace former sponsor Adidas who, at the beginning of the year announced that they were ending their association with the Lions, one that spanned 18 years and started with the Lions’ winning trip to South Africa and finished with the winning tour of Australia.

Canterbury CEO Chris Stephenson said that as one of the leading brands in rugby, it was an important partnership to have.

“We’re extremely proud to be working with the British & Irish Lions and are committed to creating the best shirt the Lions have ever worn,” he said.

“This deal brings the best of the best together and cements our place as the leading brand in rugby expanding our commitment from the grassroots of the game to the pinnacle of world rugby”.

Currently, there has been no length stipulated on the new partnership. But with the Lions only touring every four years, it may be a partnership that is reviewed after each tour.

Canterbury currently provide clothing to both England and Ireland with Wales’ apparel currently sponsored by Under Armour and Scotland whose primary kit sponsor is Macron.
