AS Roma releases Social Media analytics for 2015

In a slightly strange move considering the fact that most football clubs keep its social analytics reasonably closely guarded, AS Roma has gone ahead and unveiled its social media statistics for 2015.

While this isn’t the first time that AS Roma’s unorthodox approach to the digital world has come to the fore after redesigning their website through crowd-sourcing, it does reflect the fact that they’re really making fans part of the club instead of just outsiders looking in.

In addition to their crowd-sourced website, 2015 was a great year for the club on digital, launching 11 social accounts.

In the review, AS Roma gives us 10 stats to illustrate its year on social media including some of these notables:

  • Instagram is the fastest growing social media platform for AS Roma. In 2015, Roma posted 824 pictures to the photo-sharing platform and added 307,000 new followers – an increase of 172% in 12 months.
  • For the first time, Italy is no longer the biggest country for AS Roma on Facebook. Egypt, birthplace of Mohamed Salah, now boasts more followers of Roma’s official Facebook page than any other country in the world.
  • The Facebook post that had the biggest reach in 2015 was this post-match photograph of the two legends – Francesco Totti and Lionel Messi. The post reached 11,300,000 people.
  • AS Roma’s most popular Tweet of 2015 was posted on the English account after Alessandro Florenzi scored the goal of year and was retweeted 5,337 times and liked a further 3,608 times.

In terms of engaging with the fans and making fans feel as if they’re a true part of the club, it is yet another tick in the box for those behind the scenes in AS Roma’s digital team. And don’t be surprised if actions like this prompt other clubs to do the same.
