Williams Race to Pole Position in Formula One Social Media Ranking

The 2015 F1 Social Media Index, which ranks Formula 1 teams according to social media performance has been announced – Williams top the league, climbing from second place last year, ahead of McLaren and Mercedes who claimed second and third places respectively.

Launched ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend, The 2015 F1 Social Media Index www.F1.socialmediaindex.co.uk is a league table of the 11 teams involved in the 2015 FIA Formula One World Championship, ranked according to the best use of social media by their official club channels.

Published annually, the table is compiled by measuring the performance of each team based not just on an algorithm, but research from a team of nine people who looked at eight social networks, as well as a panel of four judges who presided over the results.

Team 2014 ranking 2015 ranking

Toro Rosso 11th 6th

The F1 Social Media Index, produced by PR and social media agency Umpf, was four months in the making. It follows the success of thesport.socialmediaindex.co.uk, which in 2013 set a benchmark of social media success in sport.

Amy Byard, Social Media Account Manager at Umpf said: “Williams achieved pole position in the 2015 F1 Social Media Index by generating a high level of engagement among its fan base – particularly through Facebook and Twitter.

“Williams may not have the largest fan base, but in percentage terms, they are certainly the most engaged F1 audience.

“McLaren and Mercedes should also be commended for taking second and third places respectively, making a significant climb up the table from 4th and 7th place last year.”
