US Soccer superstar broadcasts whole game via Facebook Live
American football player Alex Morgan has broadcast the entire season-opening game between Orlando Pride and Houston Dash via Facebook’s Live streaming service.
Signalling an important step in the sports live streaming industry with it being the first ever game to be officially broadcast on Facebook Live, the Orlando Pride player worked together with the social media department as well as the National Women’s Soccer League. The stream broadcast the first and the second half of the fixture which were released in two different posts.
The figures weren’t half bad either with the first half receiving an incredible 290,000 views including 273,000 unique viewers. The second half far exceeded those numbers with 360,000 views and over 349,000 unique viewers.
While the 26 year old striker has more than 2.7 million followers on Facebook, the live posts spread organically through the social media platform – making its way onto people’s timelines who didn’t initially follow the Californian.
With Facebook Live currently used to broadcast interviews, warm-ups or celebrations, the streams definitely open the door to other sports organisations who want to use the platform to do the same and more.
