The Football League to launch show on kids’ channel Nickelodeon

The Football League will launch a weekly show on children’s television network Nickelodeon UK & Ireland aimed at growing the Football League’s popularity among younger audiences in the region.

Titled Nick Kicks, the show has been confirmed for 100 episodes to be aired through until the end of the 2017/2018 season and will combine highlights of the Football League with a variety of features aimed at entertaining younger audiences. Set to air on the Nicktoons channel from 6 February, it will be presented by YouTube personality Roman Kemp, and sports presenter Rachel Stringer.

It will include a look behind the scenes at a number of Football League clubs, interviews with players and a regular feature that will see SpongeBob SquarePants take on Football League club mascots in weekly challenges.

Nickelodeon UK & Ireland will co-produce Nick Kicks with ITN Productions who, last year signed a three-year-deal with The Football League to film, edit and deliver footage of all matches across the leagues.

Chief Executive of The Football League Shaun Harvey said that the organisation was excited to broaden its appeal and get a surer footing with a younger generation.

“Offering a fun insight in to life at clubs up and down the country, Nick Kicks will help us to engage and inspire a new generation of Football League fans. We look forward to working with Nickelodeon on Nick Kicks in what is another exciting first for The Football League.”

VP and Head of Editorial at Nickelodeon UK & Ireland Alison Bakunowich said that the new show will give a brand new perspective on The Football League.

“We know that UK kids love football whether it’s played in stadiums or in the back garden so it is brilliant to be producing a series that will bring families a Nickelodeon take on the nation’s top sport,” she said.

Nick Kicks is going to be funny and will give fans a unique look at their favourite clubs and players.”
