Social Media and Mobile help FIFA.com hit 30 million visitors in 30 days

The FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 saw a record number of goals scored on the pitch. Off the field, the tournament was also a huge success with football fans across the globe, with 30 million visitors to FIFA.com in 30 days.

The 2013 edition of the competition saw a 66 per cent growth compared to the 2009 edition in South Africa, with 433 million page views, partly due to the increasing mobile audience; 11 million of whom consumed tournament related content, including during the World cup qualifiers, which saw three teams from Asia qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

The new daily Live Blog, available in all six languages: Arabic, English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish proved a particular hit, with users on average following this for 14 minutes on 30 June, the day of the final.

The tournament also saw the launch of Facebook pages for the Official Mascot of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ and an official tournament page too, further enabling fans to interact with each other around the world. An official Facebook page for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil will be launched soon.

On Twitter, more than 3.8million followers now follow FIFA’s @fifacom and @fifaworldcup accounts – also available in six languages – with further growth anticipated in the next quarter, as the qualification process for next year’s World Cup comes towards a conclusion.
