Olympique Lyonnais team up with EVS to boost fan engagement in-stadium

French Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais may only have moved into their spanking new Parc OL a couple of months ago, but already they’re innovating.

The seven-time French Champions have installed video production company EVS’s FanCast solution to boost engagement with fans.

OL’s media team run its in-house TV station, OLTV, and the partnership with EVS will provide video solutions to the TV channel as well as providing fans in the new Parc OL with matchday content on their mobile phones as well as on the big screens around the ground.

Fans’ devices connected to the wifi in the stadium will be able to access content, including multi-angle action replays less than two minutes after the action happens.

The idea is that watching football at home is now a much different experience to watching in the stands, and in some ways it’s a much better – or more convenient – one. Fans can access to action replays, as well as statistics and analysis from the comfort of their armchairs, but in the stadium they are still left to their own ability to glean information about the game happening in front of them with no external help.

EVS’s FanCast system at Parc OL aims to change all that by taking fans in the stadium a step closer to their home comforts whilst also experiencing the thrill of a live football match happening right in front of them.

“Producing and delivering quality content directly to fans is becoming increasingly important as a way of connecting with them. And with the new stadium, it’s vital that we keep them engaged,” said Jean-Yves Meilland, Director of OL Images, a subsidiary of the OL Groupe who manage the club’s media and TV output. “EVS’ FanCast solution provides the live production tools we need to create daily programing in HD for OLTV. We can also use it to produce matchday video and deliver it directly to our fans faster, without the need for additional expensive resources. Today’s football follower wants more information, content and value from their team, and with EVS, we’re able to meet that demand.”

“Olympique Lyonnais is one of a growing number of clubs to turn to EVS’ live production technology to create and distribute content faster and with greater impact,” said Sébastien Verlaine, Marketing Manager EMEA at EVS. “As video has become an effective way of connecting with fans, it’s important that clubs which create content have a suitable production infrastructure in place to increase the engagement level of their fans.”
