NFL’s Vikings to get the most connected stadium in the US

The Minnesota Vikings are in store for a significant digital upgrade after partnering with tech solutions company VenueNext and CenturyLink to kit out its new stadium U.S. Bank Stadium with the latest in Wifi and mobile application technology.

Under the deal, VenueNext will provide a new version of the Vikings’ mobile app and introduce a number of new services to satisfy fans including a digital ticketing option, food and beverage ordering, loyalty rewards, merchandise ordering, robust video content and even facility queue push notifications.

To facilitate use of the app, Louisiana-based telecommunications company CenturyLink will install 1,300 Wifi access points including clam shells in handrails that ensure connectivity.

It will see U.S. Bank Stadium become one of the most modern and connected sports venues in the US with the app forming the centrepiece of the stadium’s infrastructure. The stadium which will have league-high 13 high definition video and ribbon boards and about 2,000 high-definition televisions will be on view throughout the stadium to keep fans connected to the field.

Vikings Owner Mark Wilf said the updates will ensure that the fans are being provided with the best game day experience possible.

“The app will not only give all Vikings fans a better experience when consuming team content on their mobile devices, but also will allow seamless access to the numerous amenities at U.S. Bank Stadium,” he said.

“Our goals are always to continue developing deeper engagement with all Vikings fans, and the VenueNext technology will help achieve both.”

U.S. Bank Stadium will open in July and seat around 67,000 people for Vikings’ games, expandable to 73,000 for special events already scheduled including Super Bowl LII  in 2018 and 2019 NCAA Final Four.
