Man City in groundbreaking new robotics partnership

Over the last few years, football has been catching up with the technology curve. For a sport that is so popular around the world, it often lags behind other sports in terms of moving with the times.

But recently, football clubs have been embracing technologies to enhance the experiences of their fans, taking to social media to engage with their adoring public, and this week Manchester City have announced a new partnership to use new tech to engage with their fans.

This week, the Premier League club have announced a new deal with Chinese humanoid robotics firm Ubtech Robotics to bring new content to fans.

“Partnering with UBTECH, who are a world leader in their field and share our passion for innovation and cooperation, is a natural fit for Manchester City. Together, we can reinvent the fan experience both at the Etihad Stadium and online by using pioneering technology and putting fans at the heart of the partnership.” Tom Glick, chief commercial officer at City Football Group told the club’s website.

“We are delighted to welcome UBTECH to the family and to have the opportunity to introduce our fans in Manchester, China and beyond to their exciting product range and the never before seen content and experiences this partnership will deliver.”

The robots will appear in behind-the-scenes content on City’s social media channels and the website on selected matchdays throughout the season and in competitions for fans.

As yet, we’re unsure exactly what the deal will involve for fans, and how exactly the innovation will manifest itself, but it’s clear that Man City’s new ‘official Robot partner’ will become a pioneer for partnership of robotics and football.

We’re looking forward to seeing what they have in store!
