Major League Baseball launches its own Social Media platform
Major League Baseball and Vixlet have teamed up to launch the MLB’s very own social network available around the world named “MLB Fans”.
While sports continue to investigate ways in which they can increase fan engagement, the MLB has become the first major sporting league in North America or the UK to start its own social platform.
The app will allow MLB fans to connect directly to their favourite teams, players and other fans around the world. It will also provide a two-way channel in which MLB.com will post post videos, photos, gifs and commentary.
Similarly, fans will also be able to share experiences by posting photos, videos, commentary with the added extra of being able to like and share posts from other fans and players and clubs (just like Facebook and Google +).
Director of New Media at MLB.com Andrew Patterson said that the new social platform would assist Major League Baseball in connecting with its fans and furthering its engagement.
Vixlet has built a powerful social platform for baseball fans to create, distribute and share their most meaningful baseball experiences. We’re excited about working with Vixlet to make MLB Fans a great network and an important outlet for the daily baseball conversations millions of fans have.
The app is available to download on either iOS or Android and can also be accessed online. It includes access to MLB.com’s other industry-leading digital platforms including MLB.com Shop and MLB.com.
