GoPro launches new VR camera and platform
The increasingly popular camera manufacturer GoPro has made an important step to the shift in Virtual Reality (VR), launching a new VR camera named the GoPro Omni as well as a platform dedicated to 360-degree videos.
The GoPro Omni is an aluminum rig which features six synchronised Hero4 cameras. All six cameras film at the same time in order to create a 360-degree video in high quality, allowing users to produce high-resolution, 8K video.
Available to be pre-ordered via the company’s websites, the tool could really shoot 360 video into the mainstream, allowing practically anyone, whether they’re individuals or companies, to produce these videos.
In addition to its new product, GoPro has launched a new website and free app available on iOS and Android, dedicated to showing VR content from different industries including Entertainment, Sport and Music.
With such sites like Facebook 360 attempting to show lots of VR content online, GoPro have set up this platform with the everyday user in mind so that anyone, anywhere can see what other 360-degree videos entities are doing, whether they’re individuals or companies
A significant number of sports team and brands are already using 360-degree videos, particularly on Facebook and YouTube. And GoPro have gone slightly original, developing a product which can be used by anyone to create the experience.
However, the luxury won’t be cheap, with the camera coming into the market at US$4,999.
