FC Barcelona gets creative with El Clasico content

One of the most anticipated games of each season played out on Saturday, the El Clasico in Spain between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. With Real Madrid signing an agreement with Snapchat not long before the first meeting of the season that underlined the match-up, this time it was the Catalan club that looked to take the digital initiative, unveiling a collection of original social and digital content.

In conjunction with partners Beko, EA Sports, FC Barcelona sought to not only keep fans updated with the match but did so in one of the more creative ways that we’ve seen from a football club this season via three interesting activations.

Mosaic videos on Instagram

Mosaics on Instagram have been used by brands and organisations in order to create big and artistic visuals. In partnership with its sponsor Beko, the club launched one of the first mosaic video patterns on Instagram featuring animated FC Barcelona players. Unveiled the day before the game, the animation promoted the event showing off characteristics of each player (celebrations, skills, ways of playing etc).

A 360-degree video to watch players’ enter the stadium

Following Johan Cruyff’s death earlier in March, FC Barcelona paid tribute to its former player and manager, unveiling a huge mosaic in the stadium during the players’ entrance. The moment was shared at half-time in a 360-degree video on the club’s Facebook page with viewers immersed in the Camp Nou atmosphere. The video has received more than 1 million views in three days.

Highlights “broadcast” by EA Sports

The last activation comes from EA Sports where the gaming company used content from its video game FIFA 16 to illustrate what happened during the game including Barca’s goal and its line-up announcement. This content in real-time was an original way to broadcast images from the Camp Nou even if it was only virtual.
