The London Sporting Club was honoured to have as our second sporting lunch guest the great Sir Steve Redgrave on Thursday, May 11th. The five time Olympic champion entertained another packed room with his incredible story which included winning gold in 1992 despite contracting colitis ten weeks earlier, nearly withdrawing from the Atlanta final in 1996 after a bomb struck the city centre, and then fighting his way through Type A diabetes to win his 5th gold in Sydney, 2000. He also revealed how he felt as he entered the London Olympic Stadium in 2012 as the last adult torch bearer at the Opening Ceremony. Other sporting notables present included former Spurs defender Paul Miller, former swimming champion and current BBC commentator Andy Jameson, former test cricketer Tim Munton, as well as badminton queen Gail Emms and Paralympic rowing champion David Smith, the latter bringing the house down with his amazing story of survival and winning. There were five other special guests there too – the five Olympic gold medals won by Sir Steve Redgrave, just to add some glitter and gold to another stunning sporting lunch.
