Give Spurs’ social media man a medal!

This was the week that the #PochettinoPose invaded social media feeds everywhere.

The Tottenham manager appears to have constructed a signature stance for the obligatory ‘player signing his new contract photo’, with many a photocollage appearing on social media in the wake a splurge of recent renewals at White Hart Lane. After Kyle Walker became the latest to put pen to paper, Twitter user @BennyVDC sent out what looked like an optimistic tweet:

In an exemplary turn in listening to the fans on social media and handing out a special treat in return for their support, Spurs then made his dream come true (sort of) with a charmingly rustic bit of Photoshopping.

At the time of writing, image has received almost as many Retweets as the original announcement itself – a reminder that a clever bit of quick-thinking can translate into huge reach on social media.

Atlanta hawks bring their emoji A-game

Emojis can be a dilemma for the social media manager: overuse them and you can seem lazy or childish, but when done right they can really speak a thousand words.

Step forward the Atlanta Hawks, whose efforts here certainly can’t be described as lazy…

Soon emulated by a number of others, this was a fantastic piece of creative thinking from the NBA outfit to represent their season calendar visually in a nice little puzzle for fans to have fun deciphering.

 

Scottish Rugby lift the lid on the captain’s team talk in 360 degrees

Scottish Rugby this week pushed the boat out in lifting the curtain on what goes on in the depths of Murrayfield on match days, releasing a team talk through the eyes of captain Greig Laidlaw in a glorious 360 degree video. Posted to YouTube, the video is best enjoyed on the latest version of the YouTube app and is a novel way of placing the fan right at the heart of the action in a great behind-the-scenes nugget. 

 

BT Sport to showcase VR for Arsenal-Chelsea match

 

Fans wanting to experience the atmosphere pitch-side at the Emirates when Arsenal host Chelsea this weekend can do thanks to BT Sport.

Together with VR platform company LiveLike, the broadcaster will be filming the action with VR cameras from four different viewpoints inside the stadium, and fans can don a headset to experience the game from the viewpoint of their choice at BT’s EE stores in Westfield Stratford, Oxford Street, Marble Arch and Tottenham Court Road.
