Crowdfunded project brings 360 degree camera to life

With 360 degree experiences becoming increasingly common, it was going to be before long that a tech company got behind the technology and released a niche product to the market like a 360 degree camera. After over six years of research and development and four generations of the product, French-based Tech company GIROPTIC launched a Kickstarter campaign that raised over US$1.4 million in 45 days.

Joining the likes of fellow French-based company Parrot who pioneered the drone product, GIROPTIC will unveil the world’s first ever 360 degree HD camera in Dublin at the French Tech Pavilion of Web Summit in November.

The camera features three lenses and three microphones and enables the world around to be simultaneously captured in a single photo of video file. It comes with all the bells and whistles as a mobile application means that the camera can be controlled remotely via wifi and can be shared online.

360 degree videos have becoming increasingly popular with the likes of AIG and the All Blacks offering 360 degree experiences via headset (or mobile app) and this innovative product will add momentum to the already fast-moving technology.

In addition to all this, GIROPTIC has also adopted numerous aspects of other technologies by enabling users of this 360 degree camera to live broadcast and share the moment in real time. It also increases it’s versatility by being waterproof.
