The Rugby Football Union have today started their search for a Social Media Manager to help deliver on the already good progress they have made.  This is a fantastic opportunity for a sports (especially rugby) fan working in the digital industry to make the step up in their career.

The good news continues, it is not only a Social Media Manager they are after!  There are a total of 3 different roles going including Digital Editorial Assistant and Digital Video Producer as they look to create more in-house content ahead of the Autumn Internationals and next years 6 Nations Championship.

Here is the job description for the Social Media Manager role:

Location: Twickenham, London

The Digital team within the Rugby Football Union (RFU) has responsibility for the strategic development and use of new and existing digital channels and platforms to deliver the maximum impact on revenues, cost levels and communication effectiveness to our multiplicity of customers and members.

We are seeking a Social Media Manager to be responsible for enhancing the RFU’s social media presence, fostering online communities and increasing the RFU’s blast radius in social media in line with the RFU digital media, communication and marketing strategies.

Key responsibilities:

  • Submersing yourself in the RFU’s online communities interact directly and join in conversations
  • Building content designed to create conversation in the social space and grow the community on and off the website
  • Aiding development of the RFU’s social media strategies and work closely with the rest of the digital content team, the marketing team and communications team to deliver on these strategies
  • Building the engagement and reach of the RFU’s online communities by getting your hands dirty every day writing content, getting to know the communities and engaging in conversations
  • Being the RFU’s ears in social media so that you can gauge sentiment and spot trends and engagement opportunities. Communicate these opportunities and threats to the rest of the digital team and wider RFU stakeholders
  • Continually measuring and reporting on the impact and effectiveness of the RFU’s online communities
  • Identifying, fostering and developing relationships with key bloggers, community members and brand evangelists

The person:

  • You will have experience in a similar role at a high profile brand or specialist agency
  • Online community geek who gets a kick out of interaction and knows why engagement rates are more important than follower numbers
  • You register for the beta on every social startup you hear about on Twitter, you understand the impact of tablets and why mobile is a social engagement game-changer
  • You blog, you tweet and you have a network of industry experts
  • You will be a natural horizon scanner with a natural curiosity in the latest web and platform developments
  • You will have the sort of exceptional attention to detail that means, for example, you consider and understand the difference between writing ‘retweet’ rather than ‘RT’
  • You have an innate understanding of the effect tone of voice can have in social media
  • You will be able to identify and realise ad-hoc content and engagement opportunities
  • You will be able to interpret and communicate web and social listening analytics
  • You should be educated to degree level standard or above or have an equivalent professional qualification in a relevant discipline
  • You will preferably already have an interest in sport including rugby union and an awareness of the structure and operation of the game in England
