Chelsea Celebrate Hitting 20m Fans With Facebook Moments [video]

Chelsea have been very active across Facebook, YouTube and Twitter for years now.  In fact since 2009 if you’re talking about Facebook.  In that time the platform has breached the 1bn user landmark and the club have continued to push Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal for the title and major trophies.

That puts them into second place, a long way behind the 37m of Manchester United but ahead of their nearest rival Arsenal (16m).  We all know it’s not just about the number of likes you get but it’s still a visible landmark that is obsessed about by many.  For a club/business it’s an opportunity to build something around a moment people recognise.

By getting the players involved in the celebration, it’s a nice way to give something back to the fans.  Similar to the video put together by Southampton FC when they hit 100,000 fans on Twitter or AC Milan before them, the Chelsea video has introductions from several of the best known players.  Together they bring together a host of clips that look at their achievements since starting on Facebook 4 years ago.

They uploaded it direct onto Facebook, which works best on the platform and seeing as it is the topic then it works well.  Separately it appears on the clubs YouTube channel, ensuring they hit the maximum number of fans/press.  If I was to have one slight gripe it would be the lack of an annotation at the end to send people from YouTube to Facebook.  Simple to do and continues the content loop nicely. Simples!
